The Liquid
Crystal Devices Department is an international leader in developing
compact, low power, and high performance liquid
crystal-based electro-optic components. These components are
critical for a wide range of handheld, airborne, and space
applications. To meet challenging
customer requirements, we combine extensive materials science,
simulation, and engineering capabilities in high-speed liquid
crystals, low-loss
transparent conductors, and birefringent optics. Important device
applications include agile beam steering and line-of-sight beam
stabilization, wavefront controllers, and agile filters for sensor
protection. Most of these devices have a sub-millisecond switching
speed in the near-IR wavelength region.
We also
have extensive experience in integrating devices and subsystems
into
high resolution imaging sensors and free-space
laser communication systems. Volume production capabilities
have been established in the area of compensation films for flat
panel
avionics and liquid crystal projection displays. A broad intellectual
property portfolio supports these technologies.
