Rockwell Scientific Introduces 15GHz Bandwidth Dual Track and Hold, the Widest Commercially Available for Ultra-wideband Data Acquisition

Enables direct capture of RF signals well above 10GHz

THOUSAND OAKS, CA, May 9, 2005 — Rockwell Scientific Company LLC (RSC), a premier developer of high speed mixed signal circuits for commercial and defense applications, announced today an expansion of its dual track and hold family of products with the release of its widest bandwidth track and hold, the RTH050.

The RTH050 is a 15GHz bandwidth 1GS/s dual track and hold (T/H) circuit with extended hold time for ultra-wideband data acquisition. Also being introduced is the RTH055, an RTH050 with integrated 12dB input attenuators.

The bandwidth of the RSC's RTH050 - 15GHz for small signals and 12GHz for 0.5Vpp inputs - combined with an extended hold time, enables ultra-wideband signal capture with greater flexibility than currently available. Ultra-wide input bandwidth enables many applications, including direct conversion of multi-GHz carrier signals and sampling of extremely high-speed signal edges on the 20ps rise time range. The RTH050 interface to subsequent circuitry, such as ADCs, is easier and more affordable since the RTH050 allows the use of a low-frequency sampling clock. With well under 1mV noise and 100fs aperture jitter, the RTH050 achieves a 65dB spurious free dynamic range (SFDR) and -62dB total harmonic distortion (THD) for a 1060MHz, 0.5Vpp input signal.

"Rockwell Scientific continues its leadership in the Track and Hold Market with the release of this 15GHz RTH050. Continuous advances in circuit speed require faster data acquisitions systems and the ultra-wide bandwidth of our Track and Holds allows our customers to respond," said Ron Latreille, Product Line Manager of Mixed Signal Products for RSC. "With the RTH050, our customers are able to digitize a broader range of signals with no increase in power consumption."

"In response to our customer’s feedback, we are rolling out a series of new track and holds. This is the second of this year’s new track and hold announcements. The RTH050 and RTH055 provide unprecedented bandwidth to those who wish to capture extremely fast signals, whether a short pulse, a digital signal edge or a high frequency analog signal," said M.J. Choe, manager of the RSC's mixed-signal product engineering department.

Evaluation kits (EVRTH050) are available now for performance testing of the packaged RTH050, and priced at $300 each in 1K quantities. Information about this and other high-speed data conversion products, including ADCs, DACs, and DDFSs, can be found at www.rockwellscientific.com/highspeed.

Rockwell Scientific Company (RSC) is an independent, privately owned high-technology company with unique technical strengths in electronics, imaging sensors, information sciences, materials, and optics and offers complete custom design services, as well as its own family of high-performance mixed signal products. Its activities include research and development for the U.S. Government and private sector companies, manufacture and sale of specialty products, and licensing of IP, all closely tied to its R&D efforts.
