Rockwell Scientific Introduces 6Bit 4GS/s Analog to Digital Converter

Fastest Commercially Available ADC for Ultra-Wideband Data Acquisition; Enables Direct Capture of RF Signals up to 4GHz

THOUSAND OAKS, CA, February 1, 2006 — Rockwell Scientific Company LLC (RSC), a premier developer of high speed mixed signal circuits for commercial and defense applications, announced today sample availability of a 6Bit 4GS/s analog to digital converter — RAD004.

The RAD004 delivers the highest sampling rate for a 6Bit ADC available today. This exceptional performance provides significant benefits to developers of a variety of applications such as automated test equipment, high-performance oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and other applications requiring high sampling speed coupled with high dynamic range performance. The RAD004 is usable in the 1st and 2nd Nyquist band, and hence can capture signals from DC to 4GHz. Better than 4 ENOB is obtained over the entire bandwidth when clocked at 4GHz. A 1:4 companion RDX004 DEMUX is also being introduced reducing the output data rate to 1GBPS.

The RAD004 6Bit 4GS/s ADC monolithically integrates the sample-and-hold, flash quantizer, psuedo-random number generator, and I/O circuitry to deliver unmatched bandwidth. The output format of the ADC is graycode and the DEMUX will optionally convert to binary. Both the ADC and DEMUX feature psuedo-random number output to ensure data integrity.

"We are creating enabling components that make tomorrow's high-performance systems in RF and ATE possible," said Ron Latreille, Manager of RSC's Mixed-Signal Product Marketing department. "This is the perfect complement to our line of ultra-wideband track/holds and DACs."

The RAD004 is packaged in an 88 lead ceramic quad flat pack (QFP). The RDX004 is packaged 224 ball grid array (BGA). Limited samples and evaluation boards are available now. For information about this and other high-speed data conversion products, including ADCs, DACs, and DDFSs, can be found at www.rockwellscientific.com/highspeed.

Rockwell Scientific Company (RSC) is an independent, privately owned high-technology company with unique technical strengths in electronics, imaging sensors, information sciences, and materials technology and offers complete custom design services, as well as its own family of high-performance mixed signal products. Its activities include research and development for the U.S. Government and private sector companies, manufacture and sale of specialty products, and licensing of IP, all closely tied to its R&D efforts.
