Rockwell
Scientific Introduces High Performance Digital to Analog Converter
IC
High-speed
data conversion applications range from high-end instrumentation to
wireless communications
THOUSAND OAKS,
Calif, August 19, 2002 Rockwell Scientific Company LLC
(RSC), has introduced a 12-bit digital to analog converter (DAC),
the RDA012, with a guaranteed minimum word rate of 1GS/s. This
product introduction is an important part of RSC's business plan
to provide a variety of premier high-speed mixed signal products
for commercial and defense applications.
The RDA012
offers the highest performance available on the market today
by exhibiting a 65dBc spurious free dynamic range at 333MHz (1/3
F clock) output frequency with a 1GHz clock. Taking full advantage
of advanced GaAs technology and error averaging techniques, the
DAC achieves superior linearity at a high IF frequency, allowing
the system designer to achieve a direct up-conversion without
the use of complex, expensive linear mixers.
With an unprecedented
performance and 1.2 V differential output swing, RSC's DAC can
be used in a wide variety of applications. These range from high-end
instrumentation such as arbitrary waveform generators and medical
imaging systems, to wireless communication systems including
direct digital synthesizers, cellular base stations, satellite
terminals, and point-to-point or point-to-multipoint communication
links, as well as radar systems.
Packaged in
a hermetically sealed 32-pin quad flat pack measuring 64 mm x
64 mm in size, the RDA012 provides an efficient heat dissipation
path through a metal-based substrate on the bottom of the package.
"The
RDA012 results from the successful union of high performance
III-V devices with RSC's industry leading capability in high-speed,
high-precision mixed-signal design," said M. J. Choe, Technical
Manager for RSC's High Speed Mixed Signal ICs department. "A
software radio is every radio engineer's dream; this device helps
to achieve it." Sample DACs have already been fielded with
enthusiastic validation from customers.
Packaged devices
are available for $625 each in quantities of 100. Unpackaged
RDA012 DACs are also available in die form. In addition, an evaluation
kit, EVRDA012, is available for testing packaged RDA012 performance
and is priced at $3,500. Information on this and other high-speed
data conversion products, including ADCs, track and holds, and
DDSs, can be found at www.rockwellscientific.com/highspeed/
